Each manufacturer of aftermarket remotes for Overhead doors has a specific sequence for a specific door opener mfg and model #. And those sequences are include in the printed matter in the packaging of the remote. If you have Merlin remote and Merlin opener contact the local Merlin installer for the sequence.
I have an Overhead Door Model 456 opener installed in 1994. The safety sensor apparently died, but the part is no longer available.I've tried to replace it with a generic Genie sensor. The lights on the sensors indicate proper wiring and alignment, but the door opener apparently doesn't like it.It won't close without holding the pushbutton down until it completes.
Needless to say, the remote doesn't work.Is there an available replacement sensor that will work with this model? Or is there a way to wire the Genie sensor so that it will work?I really don't want to replace the entire opener at this point. Where do you live? I have the same POS as you. I just fixed it today (I'm so proud!) by replacing the helical gear and wheel.I looked up the Overhead Door nearest you? I live in CT and the supplier nearest me is in Branford, CT.

I was wondering if any of you had a working one you would be willing to hook up an oscilloscope and tell me the return signal it sends.
I'm thinking it's just a simple square wave with a specified duty cycle / frequency. If I can get that information, I can build a little circuit to reproduce the signal and in short 'bypass' the safety sensor so I don't have to get out of my car to close the door every time. I don't have the time to reverse engineering the circuit boards atm.Thanks,Paul.
